Rohit Sharma Clarifies, No Plans to Retire from Cricket

Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma has dismissed speculation regarding his retirement after he opted out of the fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia in Sydney. The 37-year-old addressed the media during the lunch break on day two, clarifying that his decision was based solely on his current form.
“This is not a decision to retire,” Sharma asserted. “I’ve stepped aside for this match because I wasn’t scoring runs, and the team needs in-form players for such crucial games.”
The Indian captain has struggled in the series, averaging just 6.2 runs across five innings. Despite his poor performance, Sharma expressed confidence in his ability to bounce back, stating, “Life and cricket change every second, and I am prepared for those changes.”
In his absence, pacer Jasprit Bumrah took over the captaincy for the Sydney Test. India needs a win to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and stay in contention for the World Test Championship Final.
