Punjab Unveils Rs148 Billion Education Budget with Focus on Access, Excellence, and Equity

The Punjab government has earmarked a record Rs148 billion for the development of the education sector in its 2025–26 budget, Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman announced in the provincial assembly.
The budget aims to uplift the province’s education landscape with new initiatives, including Rs15 billion for merit-based scholarships, Rs5.9 billion for continuing the Undergraduate Scholarship Programme, and Rs40 billion for constructing new classrooms to combat overcrowding in public schools.
Additionally, Rs35 billion have been allocated for the Education Delivery Programme, which focuses on improving learning outcomes, teacher training, and education service delivery.
“Inclusion, accessibility, and excellence remain at the heart of our education policy,” the minister noted, reinforcing the government’s vision to empower the youth through meaningful investment.
