Punjab Police Crack Down on Social Media Misinformation, 39 Arrested in Overnight Raids

In a sweeping province-wide operation, Punjab authorities have launched a major crackdown against individuals accused of spreading fake news, chaos, and provocative content through social media.

According to police sources, 39 suspects were arrested in coordinated raids across Lahore, Kasur, Kamoke, Gujranwala, and Sheikhupura. Most arrests were made in Lahore, while others were detained from surrounding districts.

Police confirmed that social media accounts of at least 87 more individuals have been traced, allegedly used to spread disinformation and incite unrest. Officials added that a master list of over 200 suspects involved in such activities has been compiled, and legal proceedings are being initiated against them.

State agencies have also intensified monitoring of Facebook, WhatsApp, and Twitter (X) accounts suspected of circulating false or inflammatory material. Monitoring cells have been tasked with identifying fake accounts, tracing content sources, and ensuring immediate action against those attempting to disrupt public peace.

Authorities emphasized that the operation is part of a broader government effort to counter digital disinformation campaigns threatening public order and national stability.
