The Punjab Education Minister, Rana Sikander Hayat, has announced strict accountability measures after the shocking 9th class board exam results revealed that 55% of students failed.

According to official figures, out of 308,000 candidates, 169,000 could not clear the exams. The failure rate stood at 65% for boys and 47% for girls, showing a clear gender gap. Arts group students performed the worst, with 63% failing, while in the science group, 53% failed.

Private schools fared better with a 67% pass rate, while 60% of students in government schools failed, exposing weaknesses in the public education system.

Minister Rana Sikander Hayat stated that the government will begin accountability from his own tehsil Patoki. Schools with poor results will face strict scrutiny, and dismissal of negligent teachers is under consideration. He added that this is the first time the School Education Department is conducting a complete analysis of Grade 9 and 10 results, ensuring transparency after a crackdown on cheating mafias.

“Education costs Punjab billions, but the output is almost zero. We will not tolerate negligence,” the minister posted on X.

The government has directed all districts, including Lahore, to submit lists of schools with unsatisfactory performance. Action will soon be taken against both school administrations and teachers to restore parents’ trust in public education.
