PTI Risks Five-Year Ban Under Elections Act: ECP Grants Time to Submit Record in Intra-Party Election Case

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has granted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) additional time until October 2 to submit records regarding its intra-party elections. The commission adjourned the hearing after PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan requested a 10-day extension to compile and submit the necessary documents.

During the hearing, the ECP questioned PTI about the details of their intra-party elections, asking where and how the elections were held. Barrister Gohar explained that elections took place in all four provinces as well as Islamabad, electing key leadership roles such as chairman and secretary general.

An ECP member from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa warned PTI that if the elections are not recognized, the party could face a five-year ban under the Elections Act. The ECP further asked about the consequences of not conducting intra-party elections, to which PTI’s legal representative assured full cooperation.
