Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership is taking serious steps to address concerns regarding the misuse of the party’s official social media accounts, particularly their involvement in spreading anti-army content. The issue will be brought up with PTI’s incarcerated founder, Imran Khan, as senior party leaders prepare to visit him at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

According to sources, a high-level political committee meeting was held at KP House in Islamabad, where senior PTI leaders discussed the growing problem of unregulated and aggressive content being posted on PTI’s social media platforms. Key party figures, including PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, Opposition Leader in the Senate Shibli Faraz, and several former members, participated in the meeting.

It was decided that senior leaders would urge Imran Khan to implement a strict oversight mechanism for the party’s social media activities. The leaders are pushing for the establishment of a vetting committee that would review all content before it is posted, especially on platforms like “X” (formerly Twitter) and Facebook. The committee would aim to prevent the misuse of these platforms by overseas individuals allegedly involved in anti-military campaigns that could jeopardize national interests.

The party leadership has expressed concern that PTI’s senior officials currently have no control over the party’s social media platforms, which are largely managed from overseas. This lack of oversight has led to frustration, with reports indicating that official PTI statements and press conferences are often ignored, while content from foreign YouTubers and other controversial figures is given prominence.

Despite efforts to address this issue in the past, including attempts to engage PTI’s US chapter, the problem persists. Many within PTI believe that only Imran Khan has the influence necessary to bring the party’s digital platforms under structured editorial control, but past attempts to convince him have not been successful. Imran Khan has continued to endorse and praise the content circulated by PTI’s social media accounts.

The growing concern within the party reflects the significant impact social media can have on shaping political narratives and public perceptions, particularly in the current volatile political environment.
