PTA Signals 5G Spectrum Auction Before Ramazan, Launch of 5G Services Near
Pakistan has taken a major step toward launching fifth-generation (5G) mobile services, as the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has indicated that the long-awaited 5G spectrum auction could take place before Ramazan.
The PTA has taken an in-principle decision to auction the 5G spectrum ahead of Ramazan. Speaking in an interview with Samaa TV, the PTA chairman confirmed that preparations for the auction have been completed and that the launch of 5G services in Pakistan is no longer far off.
The PTA chairman said the authority will formally seek government approval for the auction of the 5G spectrum in the coming days. He expressed optimism that once approval is granted, the process will move swiftly.
According to the PTA chairman, the issuance of the Information Memorandum (IM) is expected within the next 10 to 15 days. The IM will outline detailed terms and conditions of the auction and provide telecom operators with all necessary information.
Following the issuance of the Information Memorandum, telecom operators will be given 45 days to prepare and submit their bids for the spectrum.
The PTA chairman further revealed that if the Information Memorandum is issued by January 1, the 5G spectrum auction could be held on February 15. This timeline would ensure that the auction takes place well before the start of Ramazan.
The development marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s efforts to enhance digital connectivity and strengthen its telecommunications infrastructure. The introduction of 5G services is expected to significantly improve data speeds, boost innovation, and support emerging technologies across various sectors of the economy.
Reiterating his remarks, the PTA chairman emphasized that the authority is fully prepared to proceed with the auction once all procedural and governmental approvals are completed.
