PTA Prepares to Grant License to Elon Musk’s Starlink for Satellite Internet in Pakistan
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has finalized its decision to issue a license to Starlink, the satellite internet venture by Elon Musk. According to PTA officials, the licensing process is nearly complete, with only security clearance remaining before Starlink can officially start its operations in Pakistan.
Starlink’s satellite internet service is anticipated to revolutionize connectivity, particularly in rural and remote regions of Pakistan where broadband services are often inadequate or nonexistent. PTA officials explained that the service will offer high-speed internet access, ensuring that citizens across the country can benefit from improved connectivity.
For Starlink to begin operations, the company will also need to enter into a commercial agreement with Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), which will be submitted for PTA’s approval. Once operational, Starlink’s service is expected to launch within a year, marking a significant milestone in Pakistan’s digital landscape.
