The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a stern warning to consumers to be cautious when purchasing mobile phones from the market. In a statement shared on social media, the PTA urged the public to remain vigilant against the proliferation of cloned or duplicate mobile devices.

The authority stressed the importance of buying phones from reliable sources and ensuring that these devices come with a valid warranty. According to the PTA, consumers should always opt for boxed phones, verify the PTA stamp on the packaging, and check that the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number on the phone matches the one on the box.

To assist users in verifying their devices, the PTA has provided multiple resources. Consumers can visit the website https://dirbs.pta.gov.pk, send their IMEI number via text to 8484, or use the Device Verification System (DVS) app.

The PTA strongly cautioned against purchasing expensive devices offered at unusually low prices or those sold without a warranty. Consumers were further advised to ensure they buy boxed mobile devices and to contact the vendor or report any issues to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) if they fall victim to a scam.
