More than 500 soldiers have been deployed in Durban, South Africa, to help contain anti-immigrant protests and escalating violence.
According to foreign media reports, the deployment followed the killing of a foreign national last week. The victim was reportedly beaten to death by a crowd of around 50 people.
Earlier this month, anti-immigrant demonstrations in Durban and Soweto, near Johannesburg, also saw shops and vehicles set on fire.
The latest wave of violence emerged after the Supreme Court struck down a legal provision that prevented migrants who entered the country illegally from applying for asylum.
The military deployment aims to help restore public order and prevent further violence amid growing tensions surrounding immigration.
