PML-N Submits Resolution Against ‘Digital Terrorism’ in Punjab Assembly
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has taken a firm stand against ‘digital terrorism’ by submitting a resolution in the Punjab Assembly. The resolution, presented by PML-N member Raheela Khadim Hussain, underscores the detrimental effects of digital terrorism on the country’s political and social foundations.
The resolution emphasizes that digital terrorists frequently attack institutions, harass officers and their families, and broadcast these acts internationally, thereby tarnishing Pakistan’s image. It accuses social media vloggers of engaging in malicious activities instigated by disruptive political parties, endangering the safety of political leaders, workers, and institutions.
Referencing a widely circulated fake clip attributed to Uzma Bukhari, the resolution highlights the baseless nature of such digital content and calls for stringent measures to stop digital terrorists and severely punish them.
In a related development, the federal government has designated special courts in Islamabad under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca), 2016, to try individuals involved in digital terrorism and spreading anti-state propaganda. This decision, emerging after a notification by the law ministry and consultation with the chief justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), reflects the government’s commitment to addressing digital threats.
