PM Shehbaz Sharif Stresses Urgent Need for Enhanced Security for Chinese Nationals in Pakistan
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the urgent need for bolstered security measures for Chinese citizens working in Pakistan during a federal cabinet meeting, following the tragic terrorist incident in Karachi that claimed the lives of two Chinese nationals. Expressing his deep condolences, PM Shehbaz stated that the attack, which also injured several Pakistanis, has raised serious concerns within the Chinese government about the safety of their citizens.
The Prime Minister noted that he had previously assured the Chinese government of heightened security efforts during his visit to China in June, but regrettably, the recent incident in Karachi occurred despite these measures. In a meeting with the Chinese ambassador, PM Shehbaz acknowledged the embarrassment this incident caused but reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening security protocols further.
Addressing the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference, the Prime Minister assured the Chinese ambassador that comprehensive arrangements had been made to ensure the safety of all participants. Additionally, he highlighted the continued support of countries like China, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE for Pakistan’s IMF program, emphasizing the importance of foreign investment in Pakistan’s economic recovery.
