PM Shehbaz Orders Crackdown on Sugar Hoarding, Tax Evasion Ahead of Crushing Season
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday ordered a comprehensive crackdown on sugar hoarding, tax evasion, and price manipulation as the sugarcane crushing season approaches. He directed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and Intelligence Bureau to work together to ensure full recovery of General Sales Tax (GST) and maintain price stability.
The prime minister emphasized installing cameras at sugar mills to monitor production and detect hoarding. “No increase in sugar prices will be tolerated,” he warned while pledging strict action against offenders, including sugar mill owners and the “satta mafia.”
PM Shehbaz also extended these measures to other sectors such as steel, cement, cigarettes, and beverages to curb tax evasion and maintain transparency.
This decisive move comes as the government aims to protect consumers from artificial price hikes and ensure accountability across industries.
