Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif laid the foundation stone of the Danish University of Emerging Sciences on Saturday, a project worth £190 million aimed at transforming higher education in Pakistan.

Speaking at the ceremony, PM Shehbaz emphasized that the university would be on par with top global institutions like Stanford, Oxford, MIT, and Columbia in terms of research and applied sciences. He highlighted that 100 acres of land had been allocated for the project, with the first section set to open by August 14, 2026.

The funding for the project has been transferred to the national exchequer from accounts held by the Supreme Court. The university will operate autonomously under a foundation-led governance model, ensuring transparency and academic excellence.

Additionally, an Rs10 billion endowment fund will be established to support underprivileged students, particularly girls. PM Shehbaz reaffirmed his commitment to providing world-class education for all, regardless of financial background.

“This university will become a center of excellence in modern sciences, shaping Pakistan’s future,” the Prime Minister stated, urging Pakistani scholars abroad to contribute to its development.
