Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while addressing a foundation stone-laying ceremony in Islamabad on Thursday, announced a landmark decision to double Balochistan’s share in the National Finance Commission (NFC) award.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Jinnah Square Underpass on Murree Road, the premier underscored his government’s commitment to equitable development across all provinces. “Balochistan is a vital part of Pakistan,” he said, vowing to uplift the region through targeted development aligned with local aspirations.

Referring to former conflict zones now being modernized, Mr Sharif remarked, “The once-bloody track that claimed thousands of lives is now being turned into a modern highway.”

He did not disclose exact figures or timelines for the enhanced NFC share but assured that the province’s allocation would effectively be doubled.

Highlighting the pace of progress in Islamabad, the PM praised ongoing infrastructure work and dubbed it ‘Pakistan speed’—a new benchmark beyond ‘Shehbaz speed’. “This is the collective energy of Team Pakistan,” he said.

Citing a recent upgrade by Fitch Ratings from ‘CCC’ to ‘B−’, the PM noted it as proof of economic progress. “Allah has blessed us with some stability. Now we must push forward with unity and purpose.”

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also addressed the ceremony, revealing that the underpass project would be completed in just 35 days—well ahead of its 60-day timeline. He further shared updates on other projects, including traffic easing at Faisal Masjid Chowk and operationalizing the long-awaited Blue Area parking plaza.
