PHC Summons KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in Missing Persons Case
In a significant development, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) has summoned Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in a case concerning missing persons. The directive came from PHC Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, who expressed frustration over the long delay in the case’s resolution. The court was hearing a petition where the petitioner’s lawyer presented CCTV footage showing that the petitioner was rearrested outside the jail after being released on bail, raising serious legal concerns.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Advocate General informed the court that the law department had been handling the case but that the Chief Minister was occupied with meetings. However, the PHC Chief Justice insisted that Ali Amin Gandapur must personally appear in court to address the issue.
Chief Justice Ibrahim emphasized that re-arresting a citizen after their release on bail was a violation of the law and ordered the CM to either appear today (Monday) or Friday depending on his availability. He further remarked that there would be no compromise on legal principles, underscoring the urgency of resolving the matter.
