Peshawar Shooting Injures Transgender Person in Fourth Attack This Week

A transgender individual named Burfi was shot and injured in a targeted attack in the jurisdiction of Kotwali Police Station, Peshawar, late Wednesday evening. Police transported the injured to Lady Reading Hospital where she is reported to be in stable condition.

Law enforcement officials have registered an FIR against two suspects and launched an investigation. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but activists say it’s part of a troubling pattern.

President of the Transgender Association, Farzana, expressed serious concern, stating, “This is the fourth violent attack in just a few days, and one of our community members was murdered only last week.”

Farzana further revealed that over 60 transgender people have been killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to date, yet little has been done by provincial authorities to ensure their safety.

Calls for stricter protection laws and enforcement are growing louder, as the transgender community in Pakistan continues to face systemic violence and discrimination.
