Pentagon Labels Arrest of Pakistani Military Officers as Internal Affair

In response to reports of the arrest of military officers in Pakistan, the United States has emphasized that it views the situation as an internal matter for Pakistan to address. During a weekly briefing, Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh acknowledged the reports but clarified that the U.S. considers this an issue for Pakistan to resolve independently.

Singh highlighted the enduring partnership between the United States and Pakistan, stressing that military and political leadership from both countries continue to engage in discussions on matters of mutual interest. “As you know, the U.S. values our partnership with Pakistan,” Singh stated, reaffirming Washington’s commitment to working alongside Pakistan on regional security and common goals.

This response comes in the wake of the arrest of former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed, who has been placed under military custody as the Pakistan Army initiated a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) against him. The Pakistan Army’s decision follows a detailed court of inquiry that found multiple violations of the Pakistan Army Act by Hameed post-retirement.

In addition to Hameed’s arrest, three more retired army officers were also taken into custody as part of a broader investigation into actions deemed contrary to military discipline. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has confirmed these developments, emphasizing that appropriate disciplinary actions are being pursued in accordance with the law.
