As monsoon rains continue to drench the region, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a critical warning about the heightened risk of flash flooding in Southern Punjab. The divisions of Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, and Bahawalpur are particularly vulnerable, with residents urged to remain alert.

Despite widespread rumors circulating on social media, PDMA officials have clarified that the water levels in the rivers remain stable, and there has been no excessive release of water from India. The PDMA’s spokesperson emphasized that these rumors are baseless and that there is no cause for alarm regarding transboundary water flows.

In the next 24 hours, Punjab is expected to experience additional rainfall, which could exacerbate the risk of flash floods in the already vulnerable regions of Southern Punjab. Local commissioners in the affected areas have been placed on high alert to respond swiftly to any emergency.

Irfan Ali Kathia, Director General of PDMA, highlighted the current flood challenges in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur, where heavy rainfall in the Sulaiman Mountain range is contributing to rising water levels. Medium-level floods are currently moving through the Rajanpurkaha, Chachar, Patok, and Zangi Road hills, while a high-level flood wave is progressing through the Sakhi Sarwar River in Dera Ghazi Khan.

In light of these developments, the PDMA, in coordination with local authorities, has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of residents. Evacuations have been carried out in areas under threat, relocating people to safer locations away from potential flood zones.

While the Indus River is experiencing low-level flooding, water levels in major rivers like the Chenab, Ravi, Jhelum, and Sutlej remain normal. The PDMA has also dispelled fears regarding the water levels in key Indian dams, which are reportedly lower than last year.
