Paris Hosts Global AI Summit Amid Rising Tech Tensions

Paris is set to become the center of the artificial intelligence world as it hosts the AI Action Summit on February 10-11. Co-hosted by France and India, the summit will bring together leaders from nearly 100 countries, including the U.S. and China, to discuss the safe and efficient deployment of AI technologies.
The summit will focus on open-source AI, energy sustainability, and global AI governance. Notably, it will not introduce new AI regulations but will emphasize policy frameworks that balance innovation with responsibility. High-profile attendees include executives from Microsoft, Alphabet, and OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman.
One key agenda is addressing the energy demand of AI systems. France, a major producer of nuclear energy, aims to position itself as a leader in sustainable AI infrastructure. Another highlight is the expected commitment of up to $2.5 billion over five years to fund AI-driven public-interest projects worldwide.
The role of the U.S. remains uncertain, given the Trump administration’s recent repeal of Biden-era AI policies. However, Vice President JD Vance will lead the American delegation, and discussions with China on AI principles remain ongoing.
With rising global competition, the summit is expected to set the stage for AI’s future, shaping policies that will impact economies and industries worldwide.
