President Asif Ali Zardari expressed optimism about Pakistan’s maritime future, stressing that unity of purpose and commitment to excellence would help the country secure its rightful place as a competitive and respected maritime nation.

In a message on the International Day of Maritime Trade, the President said the maritime sector forms the backbone of Pakistan’s trade, connectivity, and economic resilience.

He highlighted that comprehensive reforms are underway, focusing on port upgradation, infrastructure modernization, digitization, and capacity building to align Pakistan’s maritime systems with global standards.

The President added that several maritime policies are under review to uplift the sector, with incentives for Pakistani shipping companies aimed at reducing dependence on foreign carriers, enhancing freight security, and saving foreign exchange.

He noted the phased implementation of the Pakistan Single Window Port Community System, which integrates stakeholders across the maritime supply chain. Karachi Port and Port Qasim, he said, are being upgraded to handle increasing trade volumes and emerge as regional hubs.

“These steps,” Zardari stressed, “are not isolated measures but part of a coherent strategy to safeguard Pakistan’s interests while contributing responsibly to the global maritime community.”
