Pakistan’s Air Defense Triumphs: 77 Indian Drones Downed in 48 Hours

Pakistan’s security forces have demonstrated formidable air defense capabilities, shooting down 77 Indian drones across multiple cities over the past two days amid heightened tensions with India. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that 29 drones were neutralized by the evening of May 8, with an additional 48 destroyed since Thursday night, showcasing Pakistan’s advanced radar tracking and response systems.
According to security sources, the drones were downed in cities including Vehari, Pakpattan, Okara, and Bahawalnagar. ISPR Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stated that Pakistan’s air defense system meticulously tracks even small drones, following strict operational procedures to minimize civilian risks, especially in populated areas and near commercial flight paths. “Our air defense system is extremely robust, capable of monitoring and neutralizing threats with precision,” he said.
The ISPR reported minimal collateral damage, with one drone explosion in Lahore injuring four soldiers and causing minor damage to a defense system. Three civilians were martyred due to Indian drone strikes, a tragedy condemned by Pakistani officials. Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar highlighted the downing of an Indian Herop drone in Bahawalnagar, emphasizing Pakistan’s “agile and effective” response to Indian aggression.
Defense experts praised Pakistan’s air defense, noting that the continuous tracking of drones underscores the strength of its military infrastructure. The ISPR chief also debunked Indian claims of Pakistan striking 15 targets in Indian cities, calling it “propaganda” aimed at misleading the international community.
This escalation follows India’s “Operation Sindoor,” launched on May 7, targeting alleged terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, which killed 26 civilians, according to Pakistani reports. India’s actions were in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, which killed 26 tourists. Pakistan denies involvement and has called for a transparent investigation.
As both nations trade accusations, global powers, including the US and UN, urge de-escalation. The ongoing drone warfare highlights the volatile situation, with Pakistan’s robust defense systems standing firm against India’s aggressive maneuvers.
