Pakistan Successfully Tests Secure Government Messaging App ‘Beep’

Pakistani engineers have developed and successfully tested a secure messaging app called ‘Beep’ for government communication. This app, which is the brainchild of the National Information Technology Board (NITB), promises to revolutionize how officials communicate by providing a safe and reliable platform.

Baber Majid, the CEO of NITB, revealed that ‘Beep’ has undergone rigorous trial runs since 2023 and is now ready for launch. The app is designed to share text, audio, and videos, and to hold conference calls, ensuring that government communication remains uninterrupted, even during phone and internet suspensions that have previously affected officials and security forces.

Majid emphasized the security features of ‘Beep,’ claiming it to be safer than other messaging apps currently available. While the app requires an internet connection, Majid did not elaborate on the specific measures that would restrict internet availability to authorized users. The introduction of ‘Beep’ comes as a significant step towards enhancing digital security and communication within Pakistan’s government.
