Pakistan Raises Kashmir Issue in United Nations Security Council, Calls for Lasting Resolution

In a strong statement at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Pakistan has once again raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, urging for a fair and lasting resolution. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Tariq Fatemi, addressed the Council, reminding its members that the Kashmir issue remains a key item on the UNSC agenda.
Fatemi emphasized that the situation in Kashmir remains unresolved and that the fair and final solution to the conflict is still pending. He also highlighted the responsibility of the UNSC in ensuring the fulfillment of the promise made to the Kashmiri people, regarding their right to self-determination.
In his address, Fatemi reminded the members of the Security Council that the UN had pledged to grant the Kashmiri people the right to decide their own future through a plebiscite. He called on the Council to take concrete actions to implement its resolutions and ensure that the rights of the Kashmiri people are respected.
Pakistan’s commitment to peacekeeping was also highlighted, with Fatemi stressing that the country has been a founding member of the peacekeeping commission and has made significant contributions to global peace efforts. He noted that Pakistan has deployed over 235,000 peacekeepers in 48 missions and has lost 181 peacekeepers in the line of duty.
Currently, Pakistan remains engaged in peacekeeping missions with over 3,267 personnel deployed in 7 missions worldwide. Fatemi urged the UNSC to provide consistent and united support for the effective implementation of UN peace operations and to ensure that these missions’ objectives are grounded in reality for their successful execution.
Additionally, Pakistan has hosted an important meeting in Islamabad on April 15-16 to discuss the future of UN peace operations, with outcomes expected to influence future strategies for peacekeeping missions.
Fatemi concluded his speech by reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to peace and its continued support for international peacekeeping efforts, stressing that the Kashmir issue remains a central concern for regional stability and global peace.
