Pakistan Facing Climate Injustice, Urges Urgent Global Response, PM Shehbaz

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited Gilgit-Baltistan to assess the damage caused by recent heavy rains and a devastating cloudburst. He expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and property, stating that Pakistan ranks among the top 10 countries most affected by climate change—despite contributing minimally to global carbon emissions.

The PM met with GB Governor Syed Mehdi Shah and Chief Minister Gulbar Khan, who briefed him on the region’s development projects, law and order situation, and the latest flood and rain emergencies. The CM also praised the PM’s initiative for establishing Daanish Schools in the area.

The Prime Minister, accompanied by key federal ministers including Atta Tarar, Abdul Aleem Khan, Engr. Amir Muqam, Dr. Musadik Malik, Rana Sanaullah, and Shabbir Usmani, is scheduled to meet flood victims and distribute relief funds.

PM Shehbaz emphasized that climate justice must become a global priority and that Pakistan needs urgent international support to combat worsening environmental challenges.
