Pakistan Engages EU Partner for Release of Former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar told the National Assembly that Pakistan is in contact with an influential European country to secure the release of former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, reportedly detained by Israeli forces, along with other Pakistani nationals.
Dar clarified that since Pakistan does not maintain diplomatic relations with Israel, third-party diplomatic channels are being used. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to bringing back all citizens safely.
Speaking on Gaza, Dar revealed that Islamic countries had presented a revised 20-point peace plan, but the final draft was changed in ways that Pakistan cannot accept. He stressed that Pakistan’s stance on Palestine remains consistent with that of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
He also highlighted Pakistan’s role at the UN, where Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif openly criticized Israel and raised Pakistan’s concerns. Dar criticized the failure of the UN, EU, and Arab states to enforce a Gaza ceasefire, stating that Pakistan’s dialogue with Trump was focused solely on achieving peace.
On Saudi Arabia, Dar called the recently finalized agreement over Haramain Sharifain “historic,” clarifying that talks began during the PDM government and were accelerated under the current one. He said the agreement could pave the way for a coalition similar to NATO, with Pakistan potentially leading the Muslim Ummah not only as a nuclear but also as an emerging economic power.
Dar also rejected reports linking Shama Junejo to Pakistan’s official UN delegation, clarifying her name was not on any official letter signed by him.
He concluded by noting that political matters with the PPP could still be resolved. The National Assembly session was adjourned until Monday at 5 p.m.
