Pakistan Army Restructures ISPR to Tackle Complex Information Challenges
The Pakistan Army has announced a significant restructuring of its media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), in response to the increasingly complex information environment. This strategic move is aimed at bolstering the army’s capacity to manage and counter misinformation and propaganda.
According to sources, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif will now serve as the permanent head of ISPR. This marks the first time a serving lieutenant general will lead the media wing permanently. Lt Gen Sharif will be supported by two major generals who will assist him in addressing the evolving challenges.
The reorganization of ISPR is designed to expand its operational capabilities, exploring new areas of work that diverge from previous methods. The appointments of the assisting major generals are expected to be finalized within a few days.
In a recent press conference, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry highlighted the necessity of this reorganization. He addressed the media to clarify the army’s stance on various issues and to counter organized propaganda against the armed forces. He emphasized that certain quarters were spreading false and concocted news, making it essential for the military to communicate its position more effectively.
Lt Gen Sharif also provided an update on the security forces’ efforts in combating terrorism. He reported that 22,409 intelligence-based operations had been conducted, resulting in the elimination of 31 high-profile terrorists, with 137 personnel embracing martyrdom during these operations. He further elaborated on ‘Operation Azm-i-Istehkam,’ noting that, unlike previous operations, there would be no displacement of individuals this time.
