Over Rs550 Million in Secret Fund Irregularities Uncovered in Punjab Home Department Audit

A special audit by the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) for the fiscal year 2024-25 has uncovered alarming irregularities in the use of secret funds by the Punjab Home Department, revealing mismanagement exceeding Rs550 million.

According to the audit report, the department failed to provide utilization records for these funds, raising serious concerns about transparency and financial oversight.

Of the total irregularities, Rs404.2 million were linked to the accounts of the Additional Inspector General of the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).

Additionally, Rs99.5 million in irregular expenditures were recorded in the accounts of the Secretary of the Home Department, highlighting discrepancies at the highest levels of administration.

The audit also flagged questionable transactions involving several senior police officials and District Police Officers (DPOs) across Punjab, including those from Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, Okara, Hafizabad, Sahiwal, and Gujrat, as well as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) CTD.

Despite repeated requests, the concerned departments failed to submit audit cards or supporting documents justifying the use of these secret service funds, the report noted.
