Over 250,000 British Citizens Leave the UK as Net Migration Falls
The Office for National Statistics has revealed that 257,000 British citizens moved abroad in a single year, marking a significant shift in migration trends. According to the revised estimates—based on data from the Department for Work and Pensions rather than traditional travel surveys—UK net migration dropped to 34,500 by December 2024, around 20% lower than earlier projections.
The data also showed an uptick in citizens returning to the UK, with the number rising to 143,000 last year. Experts suggest that economic pressures, lifestyle changes, and global mobility trends may be contributing to the increase in outward migration.
