The outrage erupted amid heightened India-Pakistan tensions, especially after the cancellation of a Legends World Championship match in Birmingham. Several social media users falsely claimed that the photo was from 2025 and linked it to recent political developments.

However, fact-checking reveals that the image is from 2024, during the Legends World Championship held in Birmingham, UK. The meeting was cordial and took place in a sportsmanship context with no political undertones.

While some Indians expressed disappointment over the misinformation, others pointed out the dangers of using old photos as propaganda tools to stir public emotions.
