No 27th Amendment Under Consideration, Only Bills to be Passed in National Assembly, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry
In a recent appearance on a televised program, “Capital Talk,” PML-N leader Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry addressed the growing speculation regarding the possible introduction of a 27th amendment in Pakistan’s National Assembly. Dr. Chaudhry firmly stated that no discussion on the 27th amendment is currently on the agenda. Instead, he clarified that the National Assembly would be considering several bills on Friday, which only require a simple majority for passage. These bills aim to remove ambiguities following the 26th amendment, particularly about the direction of governance and executive powers.
He added that statements made by PTI leaders about pressure tactics were merely attempts to gain public sympathy. Additionally, he dismissed concerns regarding raids on PTI members’ homes as incongruent with the party’s actions of issuing show-cause notices for absenteeism.
Dr. Chaudhry further emphasized that the bills being introduced are often misinterpreted as constitutional amendments. He also highlighted the restoration of parliamentary powers as promised in the Charter of Democracy and reinstated through the 18th amendment, adding that the support of Pakistan’s legal community on the 26th amendment reflected alignment with the current government’s stance.
