Nivin Pauly Charged with Rape, Kerala Police Register Case Against Actor and Five Others
Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly and five others have been charged by Kerala Police for rape and related crimes. The charges were filed based on a survivor’s statement recorded by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is investigating multiple sexual harassment allegations within the Malayalam film industry following the Justice Hema Committee report.
The case, registered at Oonnukal police station, names Pauly as the sixth accused. The other accused include Shreya, film producer AK Sunil, Binu, Basheer, and Kuttan. According to the survivor, the alleged offence occurred last year after she was promised a role in a film by the accused.
Nivin Pauly, however, vehemently denied the allegations, calling them baseless in a statement released on his Instagram account. He stated, “I have come across a false news report accusing me of abusing a girl. Please know that this is entirely untrue. I’m determined to go to any extent to prove these allegations baseless and will take all necessary steps to bring those responsible to light.”
This case is the latest in a series of allegations against prominent figures in the Malayalam film industry following the release of the Hema Committee report. The report, which was made public last month in a redacted form, details shocking accounts of harassment and exploitation faced by women in the industry. The report also highlights that the Malayalam film industry is controlled by a small group of male producers, directors, and actors who dominate the industry and exert significant influence.
