New Islamic Year 1447 Hijri Expected to Start on Friday, June 27

According to astronomical forecasts, the Islamic year 1447 Hijri is expected to commence on Friday, June 27, as the moon of Muharram is unlikely to be sighted on June 25 in South Asia and the Middle East.

Experts have confirmed that the new moon will be born on June 25 at 3:31 PM (Pakistan time), but visibility on the same evening remains highly unlikely due to the moon’s position and age.

However, astronomers suggest that some regions in the United States might be able to detect the crescent using telescopic equipment. Global visibility improves significantly on Wednesday evening, June 26, particularly in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia — increasing the likelihood that the first day of Muharram will fall on June 27.

If this prediction is confirmed, Youm-e-Ashura (10th Muharram) is expected to be observed on Sunday, July 6.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will officially confirm the sighting based on eyewitness and scientific reports during their meeting scheduled for June 26.
