Netanyahu Says Israel Plans to ‘Free Gaza from Hamas’ Not Occupy It

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel’s aim is not to occupy Gaza but to liberate it from Hamas, establishing a demilitarized and peaceful civilian administration without Hamas or any terrorist group.

His remarks came after the Israeli cabinet approved a proposal to control Gaza — a decision opposed by Australia, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, and the UK, which reiterated their support for a two-state solution for lasting peace.

Hamas condemned the cabinet’s decision, calling it a “war crime” and warning Israel of severe consequences. Netanyahu insisted this move would also help secure the release of Israeli hostages.

This reflects a new Israeli strategy in the Gaza conflict, facing mixed global reactions — with Western nations pushing for negotiations, while Israel insists on its security-first approach.
