NEPRA Announces 40 Paisa Increase in Electricity Price for K-Electric Consumers

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a 40 paisa per unit increase in electricity rates for K-Electric consumers in Karachi. This latest adjustment, effective in January 2025 bills, is part of the monthly fuel cost adjustment for August, addressing recent fluctuations in fuel prices that K-Electric has experienced.

According to NEPRA’s official notification, this increase seeks to ensure reliable electricity supply by compensating for rising fuel costs. The fuel cost adjustment mechanism, a routine procedure, enables K-Electric to balance operational expenses without disrupting service delivery.

This increase follows last week’s hike of Rs3.03 per unit under the July fuel price adjustment, which K-Electric will implement in December 2024 bills. Initially, K-Electric had requested a hike of Rs3.09, but NEPRA sanctioned Rs3.03 after assessment.

The adjustments reflect ongoing efforts by K-Electric and NEPRA to maintain service quality amid shifting energy prices. Karachi’s residents will soon experience the cumulative impact of these revisions as they balance the city’s power needs with affordability challenges.
