Monal, LaMontana Sealed as Wildlife Reclaims Margalla Hills National Park

Following a Supreme Court ruling, the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) has officially taken over Monal and LaMontana restaurants in Margalla Hills National Park. The establishments, previously operating in the protected area, were sealed by district authorities, marking the enforcement of the court’s decision.

According to an IWMB spokesperson, the wildlife in the region has already begun reclaiming the space, with human activity significantly reduced. “This will restore the natural habitat for various species in the national park,” the spokesperson said.

The future of these restaurants, and the area surrounding them, will be decided in consultation with relevant organizations. The Supreme Court recently dismissed review petitions from the restaurant operators and upheld its previous decision to close all businesses within the park.

In a strong statement, the court labeled the filing of revision petitions after earlier assurances to vacate as “contemptible” and a “joke with the court.” The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has been instructed to assist in relocating these businesses, but no special preferences will be granted in future leases.
