Modi and Xi to Meet at BRICS Summit After Border Resolution
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to meet at the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, following a breakthrough resolution regarding their disputed border. This marks the first meeting between the two leaders since 2020, when a deadly clash on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) saw tensions soar between the two Asian giants.
Both India and China have been engaged in discussions through diplomatic and military channels to defuse the situation, with China’s foreign ministry recently giving a “positive approval” to a new agreement on patrolling arrangements along the LAC. This agreement will lead to disengagement in disputed areas and is seen as a major step towards restoring peace and stability along the frontier.
India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also confirmed that an understanding had been reached, adding that the disengagement process is “complete,” and both sides are committed to maintaining peace moving forward.
The Modi-Xi meeting comes at a crucial time for both nations, as they look to rebuild trust and focus on broader regional cooperation under the BRICS framework.
