The organizing committee of the 2024 Olympics has postponed the men’s triathlon event, initially scheduled for July 30 at 8:00 AM, following concerns over the water quality in the River Seine. The decision was made after an early morning meeting today, involving representatives from Paris 2024, World Triathlon, their Technical and Medical Delegates, the International Olympic Committee, Météo France, the City of Paris, and the Prefecture of the Île-de-France Region.

The event has now been rescheduled for July 31 at 10:45 AM. Meanwhile, the women’s triathlon is set to proceed as planned on July 31 at 8:00 AM. However, both events are subject to the results of forthcoming water tests that must meet World Triathlon’s safety standards for swimming. An additional contingency day has been earmarked for August 2, should further considerations be necessary.

Paris 2024 and World Triathlon have stressed that the health and safety of the athletes remain their top priority. Tests conducted earlier today revealed that the water quality in the Seine was not adequate to ensure the safety of participants. The heavy rainfall on July 26 and 27 has impacted the water quality, and despite some improvements, certain parts of the swim course still exceed the acceptable limits.

Athletes will be kept informed about the postponement and the real-time situation. Details regarding tickets and broadcast information for the rescheduled events on July 31 will be provided soon. Additionally, there will be a meeting at 8:00 AM between World Triathlon and the coaches to discuss further information and the updated schedule. Coaches will receive links to attend the meeting shortly.
