Punjab Police on Friday claimed to have killed Bashir Shar, the mastermind behind the audacious attack on law enforcement personnel in the Katcha area of Rahim Yar Khan. The attack, which took place near the Machka police camp II, resulted in the martyrdom of 12 policemen and left eight others injured. The police convoy, comprising 20 officers returning to duty after a day off, was ambushed by a band of dacoits who launched rocket attacks followed by indiscriminate gunfire.

Following the brutal assault, police teams initiated an operation to apprehend those responsible. The operation led to the death of Bashir Shar, the prime suspect, and injuries to five of his accomplices, including notorious criminals Naseer and Gadikosh.

Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Anwar stated that the operation to eliminate the gangsters in the Katcha area is still ongoing. He vowed that all individuals involved in the heinous attack on police officers will face the consequences.

Earlier in the day, IGP Dr. Usman Anwar, along with other senior officials, including Additional IG Special Branch Zulfiqar Hameed and Additional IG Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Waseem Sial, visited Rahim Yar Khan. They met with the injured officers at Sheikh Zayed Hospital and inspected the site of the attack.

The ghastly incident occurred when one of the vehicles in the police convoy broke down, leaving the officers vulnerable to the ambush. Despite the initial chaos, five missing policemen were later recovered.

The attack has drawn widespread condemnation, with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressing deep sorrow over the loss of life. Both leaders paid tribute to the martyred officers and extended their condolences to the bereaved families. Chief Minister Nawaz has instructed that the injured receive the best possible medical care and has requested a detailed report on the incident from IGP Usman Anwar.
