Mass Protests Force Nepali PM K.P. Sharma Oli to Resign
Nepali Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli has stepped down following nationwide protests against alleged corruption and restrictions on social media. The unrest escalated when demonstrators defied curfews, storming the Nepali Congress office and homes of several politicians.
Security forces responded with force, leaving at least 20 dead and more than 250 injured, according to hospital officials. The Civil Aviation Authority announced the closure of Kathmandu International Airport due to ongoing unrest.
In a statement signed by Oli, the Prime Minister said his resignation was intended to find a constitutional solution to the crisis. However, the wave of anger and protests suggests Nepal is entering one of its toughest political moments in recent history.
