Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially launched the CM Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme. The initiative aims to provide free solar systems to households consuming up to 200 units of electricity per month.

During a briefing by the Secretary of Energy, it was revealed that households using 100 units will receive 550-watt systems, while those using 200 units will get 1100-watt systems. Citizens can register via SMS at 8800 or through the online portal “cmsolarscheme.punjab.gov.pk.”

To ensure transparency, the distribution will involve computerized balloting. The solar panels will also be linked to the users’ CNICs to prevent theft. This scheme is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 57,000 tons annually and lessen the federal government’s subsidy burden.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the project’s goal is to provide permanent relief from expensive electricity and use provincial resources for public welfare.
