Man Gets 7 Death Sentences for Killing 7 Family Members in ‘Honor’ Case

In a landmark ruling, a Peshawar sessions court has sentenced Muhammad Ibrahim to seven counts of the death penalty along with a fine of Rs 2.15 million for the brutal murder of seven of his family members in an “honor killing” case from June 2021.
The horrifying incident took place in the Phandu Road area within the jurisdiction of Chamkani Police Station, where Ibrahim, a resident of Tangi, Charsadda, entered a house and opened fire on his wife Bano, their three minor sons Saleem, Salman, and Jalal, his cousin Habibullah, Habibullah’s wife Shakila, and their daughter Samiya — killing all seven on the spot.
Ibrahim claimed he committed the murders in the name of “honor”.
The court, presided over by Additional District & Sessions Judge Muhammad Jameel, delivered the verdict after thoroughly examining eyewitness accounts and forensic evidence.
Earlier, the convict had appealed his previous sentence in the Peshawar High Court, which had referred the case back to the trial court for a retrial. However, after the second trial, the court once again found him guilty and upheld the same sentences.
This judgment sends a strong message about the state’s zero-tolerance approach to honor-based violence, emphasizing that such barbaric acts will be met with the severest punishments under the law.
