Man Attempts to Harass President Claudia Sheinbaum During Public Meet

An unsettling incident occurred in Mexico City when President Claudia Sheinbaum was in close interaction with her supporters outside the presidential palace.

According to AFP, a man approached Sheinbaum during the meeting and was captured on camera placing his arm over her shoulder, touching her back and chest, and attempting to kiss her neck.

Security personnel intervened immediately and pulled the man away. Reports suggest the individual appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Despite the situation, President Sheinbaum maintained remarkable composure — she calmly spoke to the man, agreed to take a photo, and even patted him on the back before he was escorted away.

Following the incident, Mexico’s Women’s Ministry and several senior officials expressed strong condemnation. Women’s Minister Stalali Hernández wrote on X:

“We strongly condemn what happened to the President. Such male behavior that normalizes unwanted intrusion into women’s personal space must end.”

The event reignited national discussion about harassment in Mexico, where, according to UN Women, around 70% of women aged 15 and older have experienced sexual harassment at least once in their lifetime.
