Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar clarified that the senior-most judge will be appointed as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan, as mandated by the constitution. He stated that a notification regarding the date and location of the oath-taking ceremony will be issued by the government on October 25.

Tarar highlighted the ongoing issues within the judiciary, expressing concern that merely criticizing the court’s decisions will not resolve the backlog of pending cases. He pointed out that the current discourse sometimes seems to suggest that the constitution is being rewritten, a sentiment he attributed to the interpretation of Article 63-A.

Emphasizing the importance of parliamentary authority, Tarar affirmed that the right to amend the constitution lies with the parliament. He further stated that the forthcoming amendments would align with constitutional provisions and invited the opposition to propose their ideas for consideration.

In a call for collaboration, he remarked, “Merely criticizing will not address the problem,” urging all political factions to engage in constructive dialogue to foster progress.
