Lack of sleep can cause major heart diseases, scientific research

A recent scientific analysis has found that lack of sleep is more harmful to heart health than previously estimated. The study highlights that sleeping less than 5 to 6 hours a night can significantly increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

According to a comprehensive meta-analysis, sleep deprivation not only contributes to heart disease but also worsens other risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and mental stress. These conditions, when combined, place substantial strain on cardiovascular health.

Another notable finding is that even individuals who get enough sleep in total hours, but follow irregular sleep patterns, are twice as likely to develop heart disease. This is attributed to the disruption of the circadian rhythm—the body’s internal biological clock—which plays a crucial role in maintaining heart and metabolic health.

Experts advise maintaining consistent sleep schedules, aiming for 7 to 8 hours of quality sleep per night, and avoiding habits that disrupt natural sleep cycles.
