Khyber Pakhtunkhwa authorities have decided to shut down all Afghan refugee camps as the repatriation deadline officially ends tomorrow. According to official sources, the camps across different districts will be closed in phases, with preparations already completed.

In the first stage, several camps have already been dismantled, while the remaining ones will be fully shut down in the second phase. The provincial government has formally notified the Afghan Commissionerate, deputy commissioners, and all relevant institutions in line with federal directives.

A new policy regarding Afghan refugees is expected to be announced tomorrow. Reports suggest that registered cardholders may be granted certain reliefs, while undocumented Afghans will be included in the immediate repatriation process.

For decades, millions of Afghan refugees have resided in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with camps set up in urban outskirts as well as tribal districts. Officials stated that after the closure of camps, the repatriation process will accelerate to reduce the burden on the province and address related security challenges.
