The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave alert for Karachi and southern districts of Sindh starting May 25. A low-pressure weather system forming over the Arabian Sea is expected to trigger a significant rise in temperatures.

Director General of the Met Department, Anjum Rizvi, stated that Karachi could experience daytime temperatures soaring up to 40°C, with the “feels like” temperature reaching even higher due to humid conditions. “People should avoid direct sunlight, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor activities during peak hours,” he advised.

The heatwave is expected to affect multiple southern districts, including Thatta, Badin, and Hyderabad. However, the coastal belt, including central Karachi, is not directly threatened by the core of the system but will still experience increased heat intensity.

The PMD is actively monitoring the system and will continue to update the public as new information becomes available. Health officials have also issued reminders to avoid heatstroke by wearing light clothes and using wet towels if outdoors.
