Kangana Ranaut Speaks Out on Delay of ‘Emergency’, ‘An Emergency Has Been Imposed on My Film’

Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has publicly addressed the ongoing delays in the release of her much-anticipated film Emergency. The historical biopic, which Ranaut both directed and stars in, has faced multiple postponements, most recently due to the censor board revoking its clearance certificate after several petitions.
In a candid interview with an Indian journalist, Ranaut expressed her frustration over the repeated delays. “Meri film pe hi Emergency lag gayi hai (An Emergency has been imposed on my film too),” she remarked, emphasizing her discontent with the situation. Ranaut added, “Bahut hi nirashajanak ye sthiti hai. Main toh khair bahut hi zyada disappointed hu apne desh se, aur jo bhi haalaat hain (It’s a very hopeless state. I’m quite disappointed by our country and whatever the circumstances are).”
Ranaut has claimed that her film is being unfairly targeted, pointing out that similar historical events depicted in other movies have not faced such issues. Emergency portrays former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her controversial declaration of a state of emergency in 1975.
Originally scheduled for release in 2023, the film’s debut was first postponed to June 2024 and then further delayed due to the Lok Sabha elections. The film is now slated for a worldwide release on September 6, although further delays could occur.
The film features a stellar cast including Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Satish Kaushik, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, and Ashok Chhabra, all contributing to what is anticipated to be a significant cinematic exploration of a pivotal moment in Indian history.
