Justice Yahya Afridi Stresses Separation of Powers, Commits to Supporting District Judiciary

In a recent reference, nominated Chief Justice Yahya Afridi delivered a compelling address emphasizing the need for the separation of powers and the rule of law in Pakistan. Justice Afridi highlighted his primary focus as Chief Justice, stating, “My first preference would be the district judiciary of far-flung areas,” underlining the importance of strengthening judicial institutions in remote regions to ensure justice is accessible to all.

He acknowledged the pivotal role played by the Chief Justice in safeguarding the rights of women and children, adding, “The principle of separation of powers will be followed.” Justice Afridi also took a moment to reflect on his relationship with outgoing Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa. While acknowledging their occasional differences on the bench, he appreciated Justice Isa’s openness, saying, “Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa always listened to my position with an open heart.”

Adding a humorous note to his speech, Justice Afridi mentioned that Justice Isa would not receive a farewell lunch at government expense, remarking that Isa had only accepted the invitation upon learning he would be paying for it himself.
