Ishaq Dar Meets Xi Jinping, Reaffirms Pakistan’s Commitment to Regional Peace at SCO Summit

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar met Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Beijing, reaffirming Pakistan’s support for peace, connectivity, and multilateral cooperation in the region.

The meeting was part of a joint engagement involving foreign ministers of SCO member states under China’s presidency. President Xi welcomed the delegates and emphasized the importance of upholding multilateralism and ensuring security across Eurasia.

Mr. Dar is leading the Pakistani delegation at the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers’ meeting, currently held in Tianjin. Upon his arrival in Beijing, he was received by senior Chinese officials and Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Mr. Khalilur Rehman Hashmi.

Under the 2025 SCO theme “Upholding the Shanghai Spirit: SCO in Action,” the summit discussions focused on counterterrorism, economic integration, and strengthening regional ties. Mr. Dar reiterated Pakistan’s full support for all SCO-led initiatives aimed at promoting collective prosperity.

The SCO, founded in 2001, includes major regional powers such as China, Russia, India, and Pakistan, along with Central Asian states and Iran. The organization also hosts the Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure (RATS), which plays a vital role in security coordination.
